A mutant stalks the Earth when the body of a dead astronaut is used as an alien incubator. Meanwhile, people are being attacked by giant leeches!

Executive producer Roger Corman unleashes hideous aqua beasts and horrors from outer space in two of his most memorable thrillers. A mutant stalks the Earth when the body of a dead astronaut is used as an alien incubator in Night of the Blood Beast (1959). Equally revolting is Attack of the Giant Leeches (1958), which stars B-movie siren Yvette Vickers (Attack of the 50-Foot Woman) in a watery scare fest about massive, bloodsucking monsters. The two features were directed by Bernard Kowalski, who went on to be Emmy-nominated for his television work, and they are truly representative of Corman's world: cheap, tasteless, and extraordinarily fun!

Attack of the Giant Leeches

"CRAWLING HORROR... THE GIANT LEECHES... RISING FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL!"

Director: Bernard L. Kowalski

Starring: Ken Clark, Yvette Vickers, Jan Shepard

1959 | HD | 62 minutes

Massive bloodsucking monsters are at large in this Drive-in schlock classic from producers Roger and Gene Corman. The legendary Yvette Vickers (Attack of the 50-foot Woman) stars along with Jan Shepard, Ken Clark, and some nasty giant leeches! Basically, they're just a bunch of actors in plastic costumes, but director Bernard Kowalski (Hot Car Girl, Night of the Blood Beast) made the most of his small budget.

"There’s something very disturbing — perhaps disturbing in the wrong way — about the hideous grotto scenes. They’re filled with the kind of images that no doubt made many young Monster Kids wonder: “Am I supposed to be seeing this?”...

Like many of the rock-bottom monster flicks of the late 1950s, a good bit of Attack of the Giant Leeches is stubbornly ordinary and rather a chore to sit through. But the performances of sexquisite Yvette (and bulky Bruno), and its grisly grotto scenes ensure that the movie can never be forgotten by Monster Kids who first saw it at the Right Age." — excerpt from Tom Weaver's Leeches  essay.
